Chemical Peel in Pune

Peels for melasma, tan, acne scars and dull skin, chosen for your skin and combined with internal medicine.

In brief

A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin for a set time so that its dull or damaged outer layer sheds and fresher skin replaces it. At Shree Skin & Hair Clinic on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, Dr. Nileema Shisode, M.D. (Ayurved), PGDCC, uses fruit, glycolic, lactic, Nomelan and yellow peels for melasma, tan, acne scars and dull skin, and combines them with microdermabrasion and internal medicine.

What a chemical peel can help with

  • Melasma and other pigmentation
  • Sun tan
  • Acne scars
  • Dull, tired-looking skin

Which peel, and how strong

Peels differ in what they contain and how deep they act. Indian skin marks easily after irritation, so a peel that is too strong can leave new dark patches. The peel and its strength are chosen after looking at your skin, and a series of gentle peels is usually safer than one strong one. That is why the clinic offers peels as a course of six sittings.

What to expect

  1. Your skin is examined, and you are asked about medicines and creams you use
  2. The skin is cleansed and the peel is applied for a few minutes. Mild stinging or warmth is normal
  3. The peel is neutralised or removed and a soothing cream and sunscreen are applied
  4. Over the next few days the skin may feel tight and flake a little

Aftercare

Use sunscreen every day and stay out of strong sun: sun exposure is the commonest reason pigmentation returns after a peel. Do not pick at flaking skin, and leave out scrubs and other exfoliating products until the skin has settled.

When a peel is not the right choice

A peel is postponed if the skin is sunburnt, broken or infected, or if you have cold sores. Tell the doctor if you are pregnant or have recently taken acne medicine by mouth. Deep scars and sagging skin need other treatment, such as a dermaroller or a non-surgical face lift.

Questions patients ask

Is a chemical peel safe for Indian skin?

Yes, when the peel and its strength are chosen for your skin. Darker skin marks more easily after irritation, so the clinic examines the skin first and prefers a series of gentle peels.

How many peel sittings will I need?

Results build over a series. The clinic gives peels as a course of six sittings, and the doctor will tell you how many suit your concern.

Is there downtime after a peel?

Light peels need little or none. The skin may feel tight, look a little red and flake for a few days.

What does a chemical peel cost?

It depends on the peel and the number of sittings. Please call the clinic for current charges.
