Pigmentation and Tan Treatment in Pune
Melasma, dark patches and sun tan, treated on the skin and from within.
In brief
Pigmentation means patches of skin that are darker than the skin around them: melasma, marks left by acne, and sun tan are the common kinds. At Shree Skin & Hair Clinic on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, Dr. Nileema Shisode, M.D. (Ayurved), PGDCC, treats it with applications and procedures on the skin together with internal medicine.
How pigmentation is treated
- Chemical peels, chosen for the kind of pigmentation
- Skin polishing for tan and dullness
- Creams to apply at home
- Internal Ayurvedic medicine and advice on diet
The plan depends on what kind of pigmentation it is and how deep it lies, which is why the skin is examined first.
What to expect
Tan usually clears faster than melasma. Melasma fades over weeks to months, and it tends to return with sun exposure or hormonal change, so keeping it away is part of the treatment.
What you can do
Use sunscreen every day, indoors as well. Do not use bleaching or steroid creams bought without advice: they can thin the skin and make pigmentation worse when they are stopped.
When to see a doctor first
A single dark spot that is growing or changing, or darkening that comes with tiredness, weight change or a new medicine, should be examined before any cosmetic treatment.

Questions patients ask
Can melasma be cured?
Melasma can fade a great deal with treatment, and one patient of the clinic reported that hers went completely with peels and creams. It can return with sun or hormonal change, so sun protection continues afterwards. Results differ from person to person.
Is this a skin whitening treatment?
The aim is to clear tan and uneven patches and bring the skin back to its own even tone, not to change your natural colour.
How long does it take to see a difference?
Tan often improves within a few sittings. Melasma takes weeks to months.
