A dermaroller is a roller set with very fine needles. Passed over the skin, it makes tiny punctures that prompt the skin to repair itself and form new collagen. This is also called microneedling. What to expect

  1. The skin is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied
  2. The roller is passed over the area in several directions
  3. With mesotherapy, a nourishing solution is applied so that it can enter through the fresh channels
  4. The skin is soothed. It looks red, like mild sunburn, for a day or two

Scars improve gradually over a series of sittings spaced some weeks apart.

Aftercare

For the first day keep the skin clean and avoid make-up, exercise that makes you sweat heavily, and the sun. Use sunscreen daily after that.

When a dermaroller is not the right choice

It is not done over active acne, a skin infection, cold sores or eczema, or for people who form raised keloid scars. Rollers sold for home use are not the same as a clinic procedure and can spread infection if shared or reused carelessly.

A numbing cream is applied first, so most people feel pressure and mild prickling rather than pain.

How many sittings do acne scars need?

Scars improve gradually, so several sittings spaced some weeks apart are usual. The doctor will give you an estimate after seeing the scars.

What is mesotherapy?

It is the application of a nourishing solution to the skin during the procedure. The clinic finds the dermaroller works better combined with it.
