Ayurvedic Treatment for Hyperacidity in Pune

Hyperacidity and acid reflux, treated with diet, medicine and Virechan.

In brief

Ayurveda regards hyperacidity as a complaint of pitta and treats it with diet, medicine and, where it keeps returning, the purgation procedure Virechan. At Shree Skin & Hair Clinic on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, Dr. Nileema Shisode, M.D. (Ayurved) in Kayachikitsa-Panchakarma, plans this treatment for hyperacidity and acid reflux.

What the treatment includes

  • A history of what and when you eat, sleep and stress
  • A diet and changes to meal times and habits
  • Herbal medicine made at the clinic
  • Virechan, for acidity that keeps coming back

What to expect

Diet and medicine usually ease the burning within some days to weeks. Virechan is advised when the complaint is long-standing, and is best taken in October and November.

When to see a physician first

Difficulty in swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, loss of weight, or chest pain on exertion are not simple acidity. They need investigation without delay.

Questions patients ask

Can hyperacidity be treated without lifelong antacids?

Many people can reduce their need for them with diet and treatment. A patient of the clinic reported relief for at least two years after Virechan. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it.

What should I avoid eating?

The usual triggers are very spicy, sour and fried food, long gaps between meals and late dinners. You are given a list made for you.

Is Virechan needed for everyone with acidity?

No. Many people settle with diet and medicine alone.
