Ayurvedic Treatment for Arthritis and Joint Pain in Pune

Panchakarma and herbal therapy for the joints, the spine and the bones.

In brief

Ayurveda treats pain and stiffness of the joints, back and bones as complaints of vata, and its main treatment for vata is Basti. At Shree Skin & Hair Clinic on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, Dr. Nileema Shisode, M.D. (Ayurved) in Kayachikitsa-Panchakarma, plans a programme of Panchakarma and herbal therapy for arthritis, joint pain, the spine and bone strength.

What is treated

  • Arthritis and knee and joint pain
  • Back pain, cervical spondylosis and sciatica
  • Osteoporosis and weak bones
  • Stiffness and loss of easy movement

What the programme includes

  • Basti, in a course of 8 to 30 days
  • Pindswedana and Abhyangam for the joints and muscles
  • Nasya for the neck
  • Herbal medicine made at the clinic
  • Diet and advice on movement and posture

What to expect

The plan follows a detailed history and an examination. Pain and stiffness usually ease over the course rather than at once. Wear and tear in a joint is not undone, so the aim is less pain and better movement.

When this is not the right first step

A joint that is suddenly hot, red and swollen, pain after a fall, weakness or numbness in a limb, or loss of bladder or bowel control needs a hospital first. Continue any medicine prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis unless your own doctor changes it.
