Acne Treatment in Pune
An anti-acne course that treats the skin and the cause within.
In brief
Acne is the blocking and inflammation of the oil glands of the skin, most often on the face, chest and back. At Shree Skin & Hair Clinic on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, Dr. Nileema Shisode, M.D. (Ayurved), PGDCC, treats it with an anti-acne course that joins internal medicine and diet advice with procedures on the skin.
What the course includes
- A history covering diet, digestion, the menstrual cycle and the products you use
- Internal Ayurvedic medicine
- Advice on diet and skin care at home
- Procedures such as peels, when the skin is ready for them
What to expect
Acne settles over weeks, not days, and new spots can keep appearing early in treatment. Marks and scars are dealt with after the active acne is under control: see acne scar treatment.
What you can do
Do not squeeze or pick spots, which is how scars form. Wash the face gently twice a day, and avoid heavy creams and oils on acne-prone skin.
When acne needs more
Severe acne with deep, painful lumps can scar permanently and may need medicines prescribed by a skin specialist. If that is your acne, the doctor will tell you so.

Questions patients ask
How long does acne treatment take?
Expect to see a difference over several weeks. The length of the course depends on how severe the acne is.
Does diet affect acne?
Ayurveda gives diet and digestion an important place in skin disease, so the course includes advice on what to eat and avoid.
Can a peel be done on active acne?
Some peels are used for acne, but not over badly inflamed skin. The doctor decides when the skin is ready.
